The environment in the telecommunications industry continues to prove challenging. In the midst of chaos, we see a transition in the industry occurring, one that is driven by the need to reduce operational expenses and capital expenses. Traffic growth continues at a rapid pace, but how this growth will be met in an environment of reduced capital expenditures is still an open question. Come and learn about:

- What business models make sense, and how will freenets figure in the mix in the future? What pricing models make sense?

- Is there really a market for WLAN IP phones? In what vertical industries or with what types of business applications will they gain market acceptance?

- What impact will WLAN phones have on cellular service providers? What will be their effect on cellular service revenues?

- Is Bluetooth still going to matter?

- What is required in order to provide location-based services? Are the carriers interested in this area?

Rajeev Krishnamoorthy is founder and CTO of TZero Technologies, a broadband wireless semiconductor company. His background is primarily in the development of advanced communications systems. Prior to TZero, Rajeev did a short stint at Globespan Capital Partners, a venture capital firm. He came to Globespan Capital from Iospan Wireless, where he was VP, Technology. Rajeev spent the early years of his career at Bell Labs (AT&T/Lucent/Agere). As part of his tenure he spent a few years at the wireless LAN division of Lucent in Utrecht, Holland, where he co-invented and developed the high-speed version of the extant system which Lucent proposed to the 802.11 standards committee resulting in the current 802.11b (Wi-Fi) standard. Rajeev received his PhD from Cornell University and his BS from Caltech.

Devabhaktuni Srikrishna is Tropos Networks’ Chief Technology Officer. Mr. Devabhaktuni was responsible for developing Tropos Networks’ core intellectual property. Prior to founding Tropos, Mr. Devabhaktuni led the development of the common network management interface for optical transport and switching products at Sycamore Networks and taught courses in software engineering and mathematics at Caltech and MIT. His research interests include parallel systems architecture, advanced compiler design and quantum computing and he has published articles in journals such as IEEE Computer and Physical Review and at conferences sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery. Mr. Devabhaktuni holds a BS in Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology and an MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Tim Chang is a Principal within the Silicon Valley office of Gabriel Venture Partners. Prior to joining Gabriel, Tim was a Marketing and Business Planning Manager at Gateway, Inc., and also brings to Gabriel his experience as a development engineer for General Motors. Tim brings to Gabriel a background combining operational, technical, and international business experience

Tim actively works with the boards of IPWireless, NextG Networks and Encentuate, and is a director on the board of Jaalaa.
Tim was previously involved with the board of PlaceWare.
