Why is SIPA moving to egroups?

The overhead of maintaining a full fledged SIPA IT back end is an inefficient use of the resources of our volunteers. We would like to concentrate on providing better quality events to our members.

Will I get bombarded by mails from egroups.com?

The policy of egroups is specified in their web site http://www.egroups.com. We do understand that their business model is based on reaching a large audience and using it for direct marketing. We hope the implication to SIPA members and mails would be a courtesy one or two line promotional note on the emails. We will evaluate our decision to move to egroups in 6 months to a years time and see how effective our effort has been.

Will I have to resubscribe to all SIPA mailing lists?

We will handle he migration for you. The only implication is that you will get a note for each mailing list you are originally subscribed from egroups notifying that you have been subscribed to that list. The mail will also contain instructions to unsubscribe yourself from the mailing list if you so desire. The inconvenience of one email per group you are a member for is a price we have to pay for the migration. We appreciate the support from SIPA members in this regard.

How do I subscribe to SIPA mailing lists?

You can subscribe to these mailing lists from SIPA web page at http://www.sipa.org/signup.htm. You can also check your membership information directly on egroups at http://www.egroups.com. If you forgot your password at egroups, please follow their link which allows you to retrieve you password by email.

Please log on to http://www.egroups.com , login using your email id and unsubscribe from the lists that you are not interested in.

Why is SIPA moving to egroups?

Egroups provides some significant advantages to SIPA. 1. It saves us time and helps us concentrate on other activities that brings more value to SIPA members. 2. It offloads some of the tasks to someone who does it well and efficiently. 3. It provides additional features such as chat, calendar facility, polls and other features 4. It gives more power to the members. It allows to subscribe, unsubscribe automatically 5. It also allows members to choose from a list of different options for receiving mails on the mailing list, daily digest, individual emails or read them on the web.

Will my SIPA aliases continue to work?

We will try to maintain all aliases intact and retain the @sipa.org email ids
