Hi There,

Am back from a month long sports hiatus and let's continue on with the
Subject of Venture Capital. An interesting website I encountered the
other day, which is almost a Venture Capitalist's dream come true, is
the RedHerring. ( Simply type in the word red herring, in the search
engine and press "search."--- should work). This basically lists and
also gives an extensive coverage of all the merger/acquisition and
venture capital deals and start -up's in the Bay area. Anyone knowing
of other related websites, feel free to pool in the information.

Venture Capital projects in the bay area involve basically two major
industry segments a) Information Technology and b) Health Services
and Life Sciences.

Ever wondered why the above fields ?

Well the answer is simple - a) Information Technology-- covering both
hardware and software, is a creative field. Hence new ideas abound by
the minute. Also software, in particular requires almost zilch cost to
concieve.

Health Care and Life Sciences --- Though not as creative is inplace
since privatization of Health Services is a relatively new phenomenon
even in the US. The life Sciences part though is the creative part and
new ideas abound by the minute, for people in the field.

Finally the last observation:

Whoever said that venture capitalism is only about small companies,
obviously got their facts wrong. Turns out that the biggest venture
capitalists out there are Microsoft and Oracle, who have a complete
department dedicated to identifying potential start ups and also
funding a lot of start up projects. Any others out there ? We would
love to know.

Anyway so much for now. Shall be communicating more often now.
