Hi There,
Time for my weekly update . Well what do I say, I am
overwhelmed. You'll must have thought that I am close to suffering
from brain fever, when I individually sent you'll a thank - you note,
for your response to the Onset Ventures show and the possibility of a
periodic meeting. But that is truly how overwhelmed I felt and that
was the least i could do. But before I start sounding like a
politician trying to gather your votes, here is what the SIG has
decided based on your response:
a) The fact that I had close to 21 responses in the two weeks, has
been communicated to Dianne Jacob, of the Onset Ventures. She was
pleased!!!. Currently the partners of Onset Ventures are, I believe,
in communication with Rajesh and Pran, and I am hopeful that something
positive is going to come out of this.
b) When I mentioned that I envisioned, hopefully starting a Venture
Capital fund, I thought I was being a pioneer, but au-contraire, turns
out that there are a whole host of mututal funds, which do just that,
that is invest in venture capital funds. One of the big players is
right here in the Bay Area, namely the Walden Group. So folks, I
believe we are on the right track. Also on reading the San Francisco
Chronicle, this morning, there was a news item about the current no.1
in Robertsons Stevens, which, is now being sold to Bank Boston, is
staying put in the Bay Area and will as a matter of fact run a series
of Venture Funds, aimed at nurturung companies, so there goes. Also,
there is a rumour in the air that one of the other organizations in
the Bay Area, for which I have the greatest of regards, is in the
process of starting a fund under it's auspicies. On which note I would
like to share with you'll the communication I recived from our
Chairman, which indicated of the possibility of organizing a SIPA
fund, and also the possibility of approaching Onset Ventures for the
same. This is the step in the right direction and should be supported
by the SIG.
c) Well now that you'll have put the ball in my court, I would like to
inform you of the results. I am going to be communicating with Rajesh
and Pran, regularly in the next two weeks, in the hope that I can go
ahead and organize the event with Onset. Also I am looking at a date
in the last week of June, for a possible informal mixer amongst the
members of this group, at a restaurant in the Bay Area, so let me know
your thoughts on that. Also in order to show my committment to the
group, I am planning to relocate to the Peninsula, in Aug, so that I
can be closer to the nerve center. My current residence in the North
East Bay, makes the distance a huge problem.
d) Finally I would like to say that we have in New York, for the
following two weeks, a firm from Bombay, who endeavour to help nascent
technology companies, get listed on the NYSE. They read our e-mails
and wanted to know of any VC firms that help out in this direction, so
if any of you'll have any input in this area, that would be great.
Also wanted to mention that one of the recent contributors to our
group is a marketing person, who set up business opportunities in the
Asia Pacific region, so that is great since it gives image - conscious
people like myself, the confidence that the group is headed in the
right direction.
Well so much for now, and yes the ball has begun to roll, so let the
momentum go.
