I would appreciate the forum members comments/opinions/advise on an US
compnay with eye on the Japanese market contemplating financing in the US.
I am aware of VC funds in the Japanese market (SoftBank etc.) but would like
to tap the resource of the USA VC funds market initially.
I am also seeking potential angel investors out there with whom I would like
to liase directly.
PS. the Japanese internet market has currently about 14 million user of which
only 8 million have access from their homes.
All current research/forecast indicates that the internet penetration would
be about 45 million out of a total population of 126m.
The current lower penetration of internet than the USA could be attributed
to higher computer prices (due to the tiered distribution model), measured
rate service for wireline access and slow SW development in "Kanji".
However, these constraints are being removed rapidly.
In addition, the distribution of income in the USA could be viewed as normal
versus the Japanese income distribution, which is realtively uniform.
What this means is that, the whole Japanese market is potentially an
addressable market. (note: non-ppp adjusted annual GDP/capita is roughly
US$35,000.
