I do remember coming across an Indian directory during my early
management
consulting days in india.
If you have contacts at Jardine Fleming, you may be able to get hold of
a
copy.
I have transfered to the Bay Area, and have not been in direct touch
with
the financial circles in india for a while.

The right term to search under, for such information is "private
equity".
Venture capital (per se) was not a very popular practice in India till
recently, on account of (perceived) unfavourable tax treatments.
However, there were quite a few private equity players, that included
funds
floated by multinational banks.

How about convincing Narayan Murthy of Infosys and Hashim Premji (Wipro)
to
turn Angels now?
Its about time, don't you think?

Thanks.
