Hi Folks,

Now that the one-on-one with Onset has concluded ,with at least 3 of
the 12 folks making it to the next round, (if there are others please
let me know) which is a far better showing than last year when 0 of
15 made it to the next round, it is time for us to move on.

I will be contacting Susan of Onset shortly to take stock of her
overall assessment of this group and areas for improvement.

But for those brave folks who did not make it, as they say the Show
Must Go On and Every Morning Brings With It A Hope For A Better
Tomorrow, here is an announcement.

We are organizing a second One-On-One, with the VC firm of Redwood
Partners . The process remains the same.

First send to the following e-mail addresses :

[email protected]

with a cc to [email protected],

your name and contact infomation, in case you are interested in
participating in this One-On-One. DO NOT SEND YOUR EXEC SUMMARIES AND
BUSINESS PLANS.THESE WILL ONLY BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE VC's WHEN
YOU"LL ARE ASKED TO DO SO AND AT THE E-MAIL ADDRESS YOU"LL ARE ASKED
TO SEND TO.

We in the Ventcap group are grateful to our volunteers Suprabha and
Saiket, for making this one-on-one possible.

You'll can start sending your contact information as soon as you'll
receive this posting. We will be accepting confirmations until Jan 10,
2000, on which day we will close the list and ask the folks to start
sending their Exec Summaries directly to the VC's. We are hoping to
have the final day of the one-on-one to be Jan 16 or thereabout. We
will let you'll know at the earliest.

Certain Caveats:

SIPA and the Ventcap group is not responsible for the eventual
decision to fund or not. This is entirely the prerogative of the VC.

SIPA and the Ventcap group is not authorized to review or accept Exec
Summaries or Business Plans, nor advise on the quality of the Exec
Summaries and the Business Plans. SIPA and Ventcap individual members
may provide this service, but they are not authorized representatives
of the Ventcap and SIPA groups and any interaction for these services,
is the responsibility of the individual and the Ventcap or SIPA
members. It is not the responsibility of the Ventcap group or SIPA.

SIPA and the Ventcap group will not be in a position to expalin to
members as to why certain plans and ideas got accepted and why certain
ideas did not, since that is the job and the responsibility of the
VC's.

SIPA and the Ventcap group has the right to remove any individual from
the One-On-One exercise, in case the officers of SIPA and Ventcap
decide that such a person is misusing this facility.

Finally SIPA and the Ventcap group are not for profit organizations
and hence are not authorized, as a group to charge a fee for this
service.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, THIS ONE-ON-ONE IS ONLY OPEN TO PAID SIPA MEMEBRS
(WE WILL BE CHECKING THE CONTACT INFORMATION TO ENSURE THAT ONLY PAID
MEMEBRS ARE AVAILING OF THIS FACILITY) POTENTIAL MEMBERS HAVE THE
OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME SIPA MEMEBRS (INFORMATION GIVEN ON THE WEBSITE
AT WWW.SIPA.ORG) AT THE TIME OF SUBMISSION OF INTEREST IN AVAILING OF
THE ONE-ON-ONE.

So much for the above.

We had a volunteer meeting this Saturday wherein the following was
discussed:

(a) Potential to tie in other professional organizations from other
countries such as China and Pakistan among others, in order to offer
the one-on-one facility to their members.

(b) Possibility of having a Networking luncheon with a couple of VC's
in a restaurant in the South Bay, on Jan 15, 2000.

(c) Possibility of targeting those VC's who invest in seed and really
early stage companies (remember Sabeer Bhatia's total funding need was
$300,000 when he approached VC's for Hotmail)

Thanks to all those who did show up and for all those who did'nt, I
understand, since I myself am a rather reluctant meeting attendee ,
especially when I could be playing tennis/going to a party/watching a
movie etc. and the other things that this wonderful country offers.

Finally I have got requests to start a chapter of the Ventcap group in
the East coast, namely in Boston and NY. While I am all for the
expansion of this chapter, I would like to put it on hold for the
moment for the following reasons:

(a) We are just about getting our arms around the Silicon Valley
chapter, so starting another one right now, may be a classic case of
biting more than we can chew.

(b) In keeping with our perfectionsist attitude, we'd rather finish
what we have started and do it well, rather than getting into too many
things and ignoring what we have on hand.

(c) There is always the issue on regulating the activities of a
chapter, over which we have no physical control. Especially in an
organization such as Ventcap, where the potential to misuse is always
there.

Hence concluding, while we will be open to consider other chapters, we
would like to meet with the people wanting to start such a chapter and
would like to get as much information about them as is possible. The
decision will only be taken then (also I would have to get the
approval of our SIPA Exec body)

So much for now and wishing all the folks on the mailing list a merry
christmas, happy 2000 and funfilled holidays,
