Volunteer Profiles Executive Committee
Board of Directors
SIPA would like to thank the following
volunteers for Mihir Maniar Pran Kurup is co-founder, President &
CEO of ByteK Designs, Inc. Before founding ByteK Designs, he served as Manager
of Design Methodology at Cirrus Logic, Inc. in the corporate R&D department.
He completed his undergraduate in Electrical Engineering from the Indian
Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in India and his Masters in Computer
Engineering from the University of Miami in Florida. He has also co-authored
three books, including the recently published book, It's the Methodology,
Stupid! He has taught courses at the UC Santa Cruz Extension and written
articles for several technical and non-technical magazines. Pran was the
President of the Silicon Valley India Professionals Association from 1995-97.
He co-founded the alumni web-site of his alma mater, IIT Kharagpur. He is also a member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).
"SIPA has taught me so much about the importance of
management -- challenges of motivating and exciting people, the need for planning,
delegation and co-ordination. Besides, it has given me the opportunity to meet and
interact with so many distinguished speakers and fellow-members. With more volunteers
("of the fire in the belly kind") SIPA could do wonders!" He is currently a Senior Engineer at the Reliability and
Hazard Evaluation group of Failure Analysis Associates. He is primarily involved in the
assessment of risk associated with electro-mechanical products and processes and in
providing relaibility analysis and failure prevention assistance during the design phase.
He has an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and an MBA in Management Sciences. Apart from his
volunteer efforts for SIPA he is also an active volunteer for the India Literacy Project -
dedicated to making India 100% literate. Raman Dakshinamurthy Anil manages the performance group of NT division at
Tandem. Previously, he has worked in the development of storage systems, network servers
and RAID products for the last 7 years. He was also a senior manager responsible for
worldwide marketing of storage products for a leading server company in the bay area. Anil has published numerous articles in many journals, and
presented at various national and international conferences and Universities in Asia,
Europe and North America. He has taught computer science at University of California and
Fudan University in People's Republic of China. Presently, he is also an adjunct professor
at Oregon Graduate Institute, and a member of editorial review board for Enterprise
Systems Journal. He has a PhD in Computer and Information Science. Your typical BayArea Geeky Desi Engineer currently in X+5
syndrome. Joyjit Nath Joyjit is also actively involved with the Alumni of IIT Kharagpur, his Alma Mater. In his day job, he works
for a startup company involved in wireless "My association with SIPA led me to explore and
realize my latent talents. It has provided me invaluable exposure to several successful
individuals and their personal experiences. Today, I realize the value of these insights
more than ever before, as I attempt to build my start-up. Clearly, SIPA is a great forum
for professional development". Amit is currently a pursuing his Ph.D. at University of
California, Berkeley in the area of Electronic Design Automation. He received his B.Tech.
from IIT Kanpur. He has been active in SIPA for over one year and was the first student
representative of the organization. Ravi Padaki is currently working for Borland International
on the VisiBroker Integrated Transaction Service product. Previously, he was at Sybase SQL
Server Engineering for 2 years. He has been a member of SIPA since 2 years and this year
is heading and managing the Internet efforts. Kiran is a new recruit to SIPA and is focusing his efforts
on developing a dynamic newsletter for the organization. He graduated from IIT Madras and
joined the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. He moved to the Bay Area after
graduation and is currently working in semiconductor R&D. Ravi Krishnan co-ordinates membership issues of SIPA and is
also the primary contact person for SIPA. He moved to the Valley after spending several
years in Bangalore working for leading Indian and American Companies. Ravi works for
Stratus Computer, San Jose, a manufacturer of fault tolerant computers used in critical
applications like banks and stock markets. Aparna is a student at Stanford University pursuing a Ph.D.
in Computational and Applied Mathematics. Her desire to associate with other Indians
dedicated to bringing the Indian professional community together to share and benefit from
each others' experiences brought her to SIPA. She has been associated with SIPA for a
little over 2 months. Soumya R. Krishnan is a member of the newsletter group. She
holds a MBA degree from University of Poona and has worked in marketing and advertising
companies in India. Before moving to the bay area, she was a senior media planner at
Contract Advertising, a subsidiary of J. Walter Thomson. She is currently a student at
Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara university. Punita is managing the fund-raising efforts
for SIPA and assisting the Internet group with SIPA's web-site updates. She is a
consultant and an entrepreneur with prior experience in high-tech companies, management
consulting firms, and Internet-based startups. Punita holds a BS degree in
Electrical Engineering from BITS, Pilani, India and an MBA from UC Berkeley.
Currently consultant in the investment management practise with KPMG-
San Francisco.. Prior to that mutual fund analyst with Merrill Lynch Canada.
Also worked in Price Waterhouse in Canada, Ernst & Young in UAE and as a
money market dealer in India. Education is a CA in India and doing MS in
Financial Engineering. Passions in life are the three F's: Finance, Films
and Fitness ( Squash and Tennis) Also member of Netip and ICC.

Rajesh is the President of SIPA since 1998. He is currently the President
& CEO of a Software start-up company. He has several years of work experience in the
software industry both in India and in the United States. He has been a technical guest
speaker at software industry forums and has been quoted by several Indian magazines on a
broad range of issues.He has also particpated as a guest on Voice of America and the PBS.
